Fotolanthropy FAQ’s

What is fotolanthropy?
Fotolanthropy is a  Non-Profit organization that combines photography, film and philanthropy to capture true stories of individuals and families facing trials, so that memories can be preserved for a lifetime.  For more information, see the About section.

What do you do for the families and individuals in the FOTOstories?

For each FOTOstory, a FOTOcrew member meets with the featured family or individual to provide the following services, free of charge:

  • A photography session
  • A flash drive of the images for their use
  • A keepsake coffee book album with images from the portrait session
  • Slideshow to music
  • A platform to share their story!

What is the difference between a  FOTOfilm and a FOTOstory?

Fotolanthropy’s mission is give to as many people as possible by using our cameras for good. FOTOfilms are produced by FOTO’s chief crew members in Dallas, Texas. The films creatively document an inspiring true story of an individual or family in hopes to give a platform to share their story with others. 5-10 FOTOfilms are produced each year. FOTOstories document inspiring true stories through pictures from a portrait session and will receive the items listed above.

How are individuals and families selected to be a part of a FOTOstory? We are always looking for Fotolanthropy stories!  Typically we learn of a story that resonates with us and contact the individual or family to determine if they are interested in receiving our services. We take into consideration the stories impact on loved ones and the community. Many stories are also nominated on our website. To nominate a story, please fill out the nomination form and bless a family today!

How can I nominate a story to be a part of a project? Please fill out the application found by clicking “nominate a story” and we will contact you to let you know if it is selected.

How do you decide on what stories to tell? We consider a number of factors when evaluating a Fotolanthropy nomination, such as:

  • The alignment of the story with our mission
  • The desire of the individual or family
  • The specific circumstances around the story
  • Scheduling considerations
  • If a FOTOcrew photographer is located near the story

It is our desire to reach as many people as possible while always doing what is best for the client and upholding the purpose of Fotolanthropy.  We hope to tell many different stories.  The way we see it, the more stories we are able to tell the more we are able to learn and share in the experiences of those who have faced or are currently facing trials.

I am a professional photographer and filmmaker; can I become a part of fotolanthropy? Yes! We need professional photographers and filmmakers from all states so that we can create more stories. You can apply on our website by filling out the application forum found by clicking “for photographers and filmmakers.” Please only fill out the application if you meet these requirements. After an evaluation of your application, we will invite you to be an official FOTOcrew Member. Fotolanthropy mentors will help you each step of the way to complete a successful FOTOstory.

What is the FOTOcrew Member? The FOTOcrew member is a coveted and exclusive title as it describes a compassionate photographer and filmmaker that has been selected to work on Fotolanthropy projects. Crew members are professional artists that have giving hearts and use their camera for good.  They will receive a badge for their website to promote this title they have received. They will also have the freedom to produce Fotolanthropy stories at anytime they like to be featured on the Fotolanthropy site.

How can I get involved or support Fotolanthropy if I am not a photographer and filmmaker?

  • An easy way to support us is to purchase a fashionable camera strap at FOTOSTRAP as FOTO generously donates a portion of each sale to Fotolanthropy.
  • You can help in a BIG way by becoming an advocate for Fotolanthropy by liking us on Facebook, following us on Twitter, posting our links and videos, and spreading the word to your family and friends!
  • Are you a hair stylist or makeup artist? We love to pamper our women before shoots and would love to gift them with someone that can make them feel extra beautiful.
  • Nominate a story for us to tell!  Know someone who has a story that should be told through the beauty of photography and film?  Someone who would be blessed to be given the gift of lasting memories?  Tell us about them!

Are you a non-profit?

Yes!  Fotolanthropy is a Non-Profit organization

What is the FOTOSTRAP? Fotolanthropy is also funded by FOTOSTRAP. FOTO has created fashionable camera straps and is generously giving Fotolanthropy a portion of proceeds from its sales to help fund our company. With this concept, we turn our customers into benefactors and help them to feel a part of this mission rather than relying on them to donate in this daunting economy.

Where are the Fotolanthropy headquarters? Fotolanthropy is based in Dallas, Texas but is available for travel and to share stories nationwide.

Do you only do stories in DFW? Fotolanthropy is based in Dallas, Texas. However, this does not stop us from traveling for Fotolanthropy stories!  We are developing crews across the country and will do our best to provide a FOTOcrew member where a story needs to be told.

I have great connections with my local hospital, can I help? If you can connect us with a leader in the hospital, this is a great way for us to learn about stories and take care of families that are truly facing such hard trials.
